Similar to Instagram, Netflix sees its storytelling platform as a tool to bring awareness to Black-centered narratives. In a subsequent post, Netflix enlists the assistance of Black actress Emmy Raver-Lampman from their original show, The Umbrella Academy, to speak on the parallels between her fictional character’s experience in the 1960s Civil Rights Movement and the current Black Lives Matter movement. However, the followers’ comments point out another show’s problematic representation of race, Avatar the Last Airbender.
